Dear all,

Has anybody done exporting of xyz data to a 3D printed format? The closest thing I found was a python script to add to blender. But it seems to be atomic xyz atom coordinate data.

Hello Andres,
maybe you can make use of the vtk export. VTK is another well known
format for 3d scientific data files.

Best regards
Lennart

Hi Andres,

I had some encouraging results so far.
I was successful in printing one dataset so far.
I'm working on improving both the generation of a 3D model from the data
and the improve the resolution of the printer.

The process I'm doing to extract a 3D model at the moment is a bit tricky,
but it seems doable.

Hi,

take a look at meshlab, it supports a bunch of algorithms for geometry
reconstruction, repair and simplification.

Cheers, Lars.

I got as far as importing a cloud of points into freecad by renaming the x,y,z file to asc file. But I could not manage to create a matrix. I was unsuccessful on importing into meshlab. What file format did you use?
