[Gwyddion-users] fit graph: step height

Hello Users,

When fitting a step (or any other type I guess) to a section it gives me a
value of "error". Would this be an uncertainty with k=1 or k=2?

If so, could we have it renamed as uncertainty rather than error?

Regards,
Andres

Hi Andres,

it is only related to line fitted to the top and bottom part of the
profile (relevant parts of it, as corresponds to the ISO standard)
and it should be square root of the standard deviations. We don't call
it uncertainty as it is only one minor uncertainty component
that enters step height evaluation.

I don't remember if there is anything about uncertainty estimation in
that ISO standard, but anyway
in next two weeks we are doing an intercomparison on step heights, so I
will need to go through the standard
and would let you know if I find anything interesting.

Best regards,

Petr
